The 2022 CX-9 is Mazda’s flagship three-row midsize crossover SUV. This SUV has been consistently praised for its sleek design, comfortable interior, and impressive performance. The 2022 model year brings a number of updates and improvements that make this SUV even more appealing.
There are several trim options starting with Sport, Touring, Touring Plus, Carbon Edition, Grand Touring and Signature. My test model had the Signature Trim and the premium exterior color Soul Red Crystal Metallic with Deep Chestnut Interior which as you can see from the images is a radiant, eye-catching red.
The Signature Model is the highest offering. It expands on the Grand Touring model and the 2nd row Captain’s chairs not only look great but they are extremely comfortable seats. The 2nd row chairs have cup holders and heated seats. The interior features Nappa Leather which gives it more of an upscale look and feel. Other features include 360° View Monitor, Active Driving Display with Traffic Sign Recognition, Mazda Navigation, and three-year SiriusXM Traffic & Travel Link subscription that provides current information for traffic, weather, sports scores, fuel prices, and nearby parking.
Exterior:
The Mazda CX-9 boasts a sleek and modern design that is sure to turn heads on the road. The 2022 model features updated front and rear styling that gives the SUV a more aggressive and sporty look. The car is available in a range of attractive colors, including premium colors Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Gray Metallic, and Snowflake White Pearl Mica. Gray metallic 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels come standard on The CX-9.
The 20 inch aluminum alloy wheels with a brilliant silver finish, a titanium gray metallic finished front grille with LED lighting accent, larger dual exhaust pipes, and a Signature badge affixed to the liftgate are some of the additional exterior styling features you get with the Signature Model.
Interior:
The interior of the Mazda CX-9 is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room for up to seven passengers. The 2022 model features new materials and finishes that give the cabin a more premium feel. The seats are well-cushioned and provide plenty of support, making long trips a breeze. The car also features a number of convenient storage solutions, including a large center console and plenty of cup holders. The Captain’s Chairs which starts with the optional Touring Premium package are extremely comfortable. If you travel with passengers on a regular basis this is a worthwhile consideration. Other notable optional features are the Bose 12-speaker premium audio, wireless phone charger, power moonroof, front and rear parking sensors, two third-row USB charging ports, LED fog lights, and second-row retractable window sunshade.
The interior is comfortable and has plenty of charging capabilities. The 10.25 Inch Color Center console display is nicely placed. The one area Mazda could improve upon is the infotainment User experience. It takes some getting used to and isn’t as user friendly as some competitors.
Performance:
All CX-9 models are powered by the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual and sport modes. The CX-9 delivers 250 horsepower and a 320 lb-ft of torque. The acceleration and maneuverability were adequate for most driving situations. I did notice an improvement in handling and stability from the previous year model.
The car also comes with a range of advanced driver assist technologies, such as adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist for those drivers that need it.
Safety
The CX-9 is well-equipped with an array of standard i-Activsense safety features such as Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Smart Brake Support with collision warning, Advanced Smart City Brake Support with pedestrian detection, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist.
Conclusion
Overall, the Mazda CX-9 is a great mid-sized SUV that offers a balance of style, comfort, and performance. The 2022 model year brings a number of updates and improvements that make this car even more appealing. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly vehicle or a sporty SUV, the Mazda CX-9 is definitely worth considering.
You can own a Mazda CX-9 at a starting MSRP of $35,280 , my tester with a great list of additional features was MSRP $47,210.
