A new record has been set by the 2023 Honda Civic Type R. This time, the car accomplished the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes 44.881 seconds. The Japanese car manufacturer has indicated that this marks a fresh lap record on the 12.944 mile track. It’s important to note that the track regulations have been altered, resulting in slightly different lap times than before.
Revised Nurburgring Lap Time Regulations
In 2019, the authorities at the Nurburgring increased the Nordschleife lap from 12.800 miles to 12.944 miles. Consequently, when the last Type R set the record, it completed the 12.8 mile lap in 7 minutes 44.8 seconds.
It has been six years since the previous Civic Type R set the record, and now the 2023 Civic Type R has once again secured the record.
Particulars of the Honda Civic Type R’s Record-breaking Run
The 2023 Civic Type R was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect tires. These are offered by Honda dealers, although the Civic Type R is delivered with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires as standard.
In comparison to the outgoing car, Honda has made significant adjustments to the exteriors, while making only minor modifications to the powertrain. The K20C1 engine now generates 315 HP and 310 lb-ft. of torque. These figures represent a mere 9 HP and 15 lb-ft. increase over the outgoing car. A standard six-speed manual transmission is included.
Other Lap Records Achieved by the Civic Type R
In addition to the Nurburgring record, the Honda Civic Type R also holds a few other lap records. These include the Suzuka Circuit with a time of 2 minutes 21.120 seconds. For comparison, the FK8 required 2 minutes 23.993 seconds to complete the demanding 3.6 mile lap.
