    2023 Honda HR-V AWD EX-L Assessment

The 2023 Honda HR-V has experienced some significant and remarkable alterations. This daring move presents the HR-V with a more appealing exterior design and a more contemporary interior with noticeable spaciousness and a lavish setting for both the driver and passengers. The body shape brought to mind the Porsche Cayenne (circa 2020) and the posture is broader than previous iterations. The driving experience felt superior to me and I sensed greater command, with the new HR-V just being more enjoyable to operate with all the recent features and enhancements.

    Key Features

The standout points for me were the fresh body shape. The external appearance is substantially improved from earlier versions. I also appreciated the roominess of the interior along with some noticeable improvements from prior models. Honda is competing in a challenging category with the HR-V as there are numerous options, yet current retail sales indicate a close competition for the top spot in this classification.

    Driving Experience

The vehicle is effortless to maneuver and highly reactive. I felt I had decent clearance with the vehicle and the broader posture provided outstanding performance around bends and corners. This is a quite comfortable vehicle to drive and it also boasts numerous safety features. It seamlessly caters to the lifestyles of young, dynamic drivers.

    Interior

The comfortably cushioned seats are very cozy and it is effortless to settle in the HR-V. The leather-wrapped steering wheel and interior trimming look elegant. I particularly admire the vent style for the AC, extending along the dashboard in a honeycomb pattern. It exudes sophistication and also offers an abundance of USB ports upfront and a charging station. The telescopic wheel and 8-way power seat make it a breeze to find a comfortable position for a variety of driver heights and sizes. The 9 Inch touch screen included in the EX-L model surpasses previous HR-V generations and the interface is user-friendly and simple to utilize.

    Exterior

I genuinely appreciate the Exterior design adjustments made by Honda for the 2023 HR-V. As I’ve mentioned previously, it brings to mind the 2020 Porsche Cayenne in some aspects, which is undeniably a nod to the design team at Honda. It sports a broad posture and commendable ground clearance. Essentially, it’s a compact SUV version of the Civic. My test model was adorned with the Nordic Forest Pearl, which had a delightful sheen to it.

    Engine / Powertrain

The new HR-V showcases enhanced performance from a larger engine and an upgraded transmission. The In-Line 4-Cylinder attains 158HP @ 6500 rpm. The engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with Sport Mode. Expect 25 / 30 / 27 MPG with the HR-V. There are numerous reasons to acquire the new HR-V, though critics may argue that speed and power are not among them.

    Safety

Honda continues to excel in safety and the HR-V is no exception. HR-V provides leading safety and technology features such as standard Honda Sensing and front knee airbags. Active safety features comprise of Forward Collision Warning (FCW)9 (a Honda Sensing® feature), Lane Departure Warning (LDW)10 (a Honda Sensing® feature), Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) and more. Numerous driver assistive technology and passive safety features are incorporated into all Honda vehicles. Honda clinched the highest accolade from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2022 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating. If safety is a top priority, there are numerous reasons to consider the all-new 2023 Honda HR-V.

    Final Thoughts

After a comprehensive week with the all-new 2023 Honda HR-V AWD EX-L, I can affirm there are numerous grounds for owning this vehicle if you are seeking a vehicle in this class and category. The styling and new body contour, along with the revamped interior and the reliability of Honda, not to mention the resale value, are just a few. The HR-V is effortless to drive and comfortable (even for backseat passengers) and it offers ample cargo space. The all-new HR-V caters to a variety of drivers and consumers, which is why it is one of the highest selling vehicles in its class.
