2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Hybrid Overview

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Hybrid is the SUV I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. As someone who enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, snowboarding, and surfing, I require a vehicle that can withstand rough adventures while also providing comfort for my larger stature. Toyota has hit the mark with the revamped Sequoia—essentially a more powerful version of the 4Runner, it combines the bold, off-road capability of its counterpart with enhanced size, strength, and sophistication. Whether I’m heading out for a mountain getaway or just navigating urban streets, the Sequoia TRD Pro seems particularly designed for people like me.

    Exterior Design

The Sequoia TRD Pro makes a powerful statement with a design that suggests readiness for any environment. Its assertive front end, featuring a bold grille and aggressive hood vents, conveys a sense of strength. The V-shaped hood design with blacked-out vents not only boosts its visual appeal but also reinforces its off-road capabilities. The vehicle’s elevated profile is both stylish and practical, providing significant ground clearance for off-road adventures. The large side mirrors enhance visibility and automatically fold when the vehicle is locked, showcasing Toyota’s meticulous attention to detail. A new color for 2024 is Terra, exclusive to TRD PRO models, which shifts between red and orange depending on lighting conditions.

    Interior Comfort and Space

Upon entering, the Sequoia TRD Pro unveils a thoughtfully arranged interior focused on comfort and spaciousness. The cabin is designed for a pleasant driving experience on long journeys and serves as an excellent daily driver. Ample storage options are available for personal items. A key highlight is the sizeable infotainment touchscreen, which is intuitive and user-friendly, enabling easy navigation through various features. The rear seats can be power-folded, allowing for convenient cargo area configurations to meet different needs. The generous interior provides ample legroom and headroom across all three rows, making it suitable for taller passengers. Adjusting the second and third-row seats is straightforward, with the third-row able to be moved at the touch of a button from the trunk area. The interior is well thought out and includes plenty of technology options to tailor the vehicle to individual preferences.

    Engine and Performance

Underneath, the Sequoia TRD Pro features Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, pairing a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor. This combination delivers an impressive 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque, providing quick acceleration and ample power for both on-road driving and off-road pursuits. The 10-speed automatic transmission ensures smooth gear changes, enhancing the overall driving experience. The Sequoia is capable of a remarkable maximum towing capacity of 9,520 pounds, marking a nearly 22% improvement over the previous generation. This powertrain not only boosts performance but also enhances fuel efficiency relative to earlier models. I found the power adequate whenever needed and managed a commendable average of 21 MPG during my week of testing.

    Driving Experience

Every drive in the Sequoia TRD Pro feels like an adventure. After my test week, it was hard to part ways with the vehicle. The elevated seating position provides a commanding view of the road, while its suspension system effectively absorbs bumps, ensuring a comfortable ride. I ventured on some light off-road trails, where the TRD-tuned Fox shocks and off-road suspension components came into play, offering stability and control on rough terrain. A step assist feature makes entry and exit easy, particularly beneficial due to the vehicle’s higher ground clearance. It’s an enjoyable vehicle to drive and serves well even for those who may not often embark on off-road journeys, maintaining a role as a fantastic daily driver and family-sized SUV.

    Safety Features

Safety is a critical component of Toyota’s design philosophy, and the Sequoia TRD Pro exemplifies this commitment. It includes Toyota Safety Sense, a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems featuring adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and pedestrian detection. The broad side mirrors, in conjunction with blind-spot monitoring, enhance awareness of surroundings, while the automatic folding function provides additional convenience and security when parking in cramped areas.

    Conclusion

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro successfully balances rugged capability with contemporary comfort and technology. Its striking exterior design, spacious and well-equipped interior, powerful hybrid engine, and comprehensive safety features make it an appealing option for anyone in search of a versatile SUV. Whether tackling off-road trails or navigating urban environments, the Sequoia TRD Pro is poised to deliver a dependable and enjoyable driving experience.

The starting MSRP for a Sequoia is $61,275, while the MSRP for my test vehicle was $80,560.
