2025 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport Overview and Assessment

The 2025 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport may not initially stand out in the midsize pickup market, but it truly excels once you take it for a drive. By merging the functionality of a truck with the comfort of an SUV, Honda has crafted a vehicle that easily integrates into the everyday lives of many drivers. Although die-hard truck fans might overlook it initially, the Ridgeline TrailSport is a capable and versatile option. Manufactured solely at Honda’s facility in Lincoln, Alabama, both the Ridgeline and TrailSport are proudly American-made. This dedication has led to the Ridgeline earning recognition as the top-ranked pickup truck on Cars.com’s 2023 American-Made Index®, making it the only pickup to feature in the overall top 10.

During my travels, I encountered a Ridgeline owner who had swapped his full-size pickup for the Honda Ridgeline. When I asked him about his decision, he mentioned that while it wasn’t the truck of his dreams, it was precisely the vehicle he required. This midsize truck offers an attractive package, starting at an MSRP of just $40,150.

    Exterior

The Ridgeline TrailSport showcases a sleek and appealing appearance, highlighted by a striking front grille that melds seamlessly with the headlights for a modern look. Fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain tires, the TrailSport trim is designed for both city driving and off-road excursions. Its dual-action tailgate and in-bed trunk further enhance its adaptability, making it a practical choice for various cargo needs. The innovative in-bed trunk and the scratch-resistant truck bed were particularly useful during my weeklong test.

    Interior

Inside, the Ridgeline TrailSport provides a roomy cabin with thoughtful touches. The leather-trimmed seats, adorned with orange contrast stitching, add a refined flair, while the heated front seats and steering wheel ensure warmth on chilly days. Rear seating offers generous legroom, ensuring passengers are comfortable even on prolonged trips. The 60/40 split lift-up rear seat, complete with underseat storage, further boosts practicality by accommodating larger items when necessary.

    Engine and Transmission

Under the hood, the Ridgeline TrailSport is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 direct-injection engine that produces 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. This engine is coupled with a nine-speed automatic transmission, offering smooth and responsive gear changes. This pairing delivers abundant power for everyday driving and the muscle to tackle more demanding tasks. Additionally, the Ridgeline has a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds.

    Driver Experience

The Honda Ridgeline TrailSport is easy to maneuver, making it suitable for a wide variety of drivers. Its responsive steering, straightforward parking, and firm handling across various terrains are attributed to its unibody structure and independent suspension. Many users remark that it feels more akin to an SUV than a conventional pickup, a sentiment I share—but I would also assert that it unmistakably embodies the smoothness, reliability, and sophistication typical of the Honda brand. Plus, the Ridgeline boasts commendable fuel efficiency, rated at 18/24 city/highway, making it an economical choice for those mindful of fuel costs.

    Safety

Safety features are a key focus in the Ridgeline TrailSport, which comes with the Honda Sensing® suite of driver-assistance technologies. This includes advantageous features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. These systems work in concert to enhance driver awareness and aid in accident prevention, ensuring peace of mind while on the road.

    Conclusion

The 2025 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport successfully bridges the gap between a comfortable everyday vehicle and a versatile utility truck. Its well-considered design, combined with practical features and a cozy interior, makes it an enticing option for those looking for a midsize pickup that prioritizes comfort and efficiency. The Ridgeline is beginning to gain considerable traction in the midsize truck segment, evidenced by a series of awards and significant increases in sales. I’ve noticed an uptick in the number of Ridgelines on the road lately.
