The Nurburgring lap record for the small category has been surpassed by the BMW M2. The coupe achieved an impressive time of 7 minutes 38.706 seconds to complete the circuit.
Driven by Jörg Weidinger, a development engineer for the BMW M team, the car took two laps to familiarize with the track conditions before embarking on the record-breaking lap on the third attempt.
The second-generation BMW M2 was introduced last year and shares its engine with the M4. A 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder engine producing 453 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque powers the car. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 177 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package.
