Recently, our piece on the Maserati Project 24, a track-exclusive supercar derived from the MC20, was published. Today unveils another fascinating development: Maserati is set to construct the MC20 GT2, a genuine racing machine offered to teams or individual customers for the 2023 Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship. The new MC20 GT2 could be viewed as a spiritual successor to the formidable MC12 racers that secured numerous wins in FIA GT Championships ranging from 2004 to 2010.
In a bid to underscore the connection between the MC12 and MC20, Maserati is commemorating the beginning of the new Maserati Corse era at the 24 Hours of Spa – an event conquered thrice by the MC12 (in 2005, 2006, and 2008). Davide Grasso, Maserati’s CEO, expressed: “Our driving force lies in our passion, whether on the streets or the track. We possess a rich legacy of global excellence in motorsport and take immense pride in competing with the extraordinary MC20. Racing has always been Maserati’s true realm, and now, in both the Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship and the Formula E Championship, this marque is embarking on a fresh journey rooted in its heritage to architect the forthcoming”.
