Primarily a heightened sport sedan, the 2022 Jaguar F-Pace is an undervalued luxury SUV that excels in terms of performance and elegance. The F-Pace is a compact luxury SUV that brings together two of Jaguar’s long-standing traditions: sophisticated design and nimble maneuvers. It competes with luxury competitors such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3/X4, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Porsche Macan, and Land Rover Velar. The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace stands out as a hidden gem among luxury SUVs. Its sleek appearance is apparent, and it offers sporty handling along with a gracefully designed interior.

Continuing from the refresh done last year, the five-seater crossover SUV remains mostly unchanged. Slimmer LED headlights highlighted by hockey-stick DRLs welcome you at the front, while the exquisite body proportions remain consistent. The elongated front end, sculpted hood, and sleek lines culminate into a muscular rear end, reminiscent of its inspiration, the F-Type sports car. The interior received significant enhancements during the refresh, blending the cluster, infotainment, and controls in a manner more fitting of a luxury brand.

The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace seamlessly merges the agility of a sport sedan with the elevated view of an SUV. Jaguar presents three engines in four variations within the 2022 F-Pace. Regardless of the engine, the F-Pace comes equipped with all-wheel drive as standard with a rear-wheel emphasis. The SVR model sits on unwavering 21-inch wheels and can be outfitted with an electronic limited-slip rear differential for enhanced traction, along with adaptive dampers that enhance handling for adventurous pursuits and soften the ride for a relaxed experience.

Starting with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine producing 246 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, the base model of the F-Pace is estimated by Jaguar to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds. The 8-speed automatic transmission coupled with each engine responds promptly to the driver’s inputs with swift, well-timed shifts, though it may occasionally skip to the lower gears in urban settings.

Powered by a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine featuring both turbocharging and supercharging, the F-Pace utilizes a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to enhance power at the start and to smooth out start/stop movements. The integration of this system is seamless and nearly imperceptible, except when comparing fuel efficiency to that of the previous supercharged V-6. Tuned differently based on the model, the F-Pace S P340 delivers 335 hp and 354 lb-ft, reducing the P250’s 0-60 mph time by 0.3 seconds; as the R-Dynamic S model, it generates 395 hp and 406 lb-ft, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds. For enhanced performance with great value, this model is preferred.

The SVR variant combines Jaguar’s premium SUV performance components with a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine producing 542 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque; attaining a top speed of 178 mph (higher than other models topping out at 155 mph) and accelerating from 0-60 mph in a mere 3.8 seconds.

All F-Pace models benefit from direct steering, minimal body roll, and controlled lateral movements. Featuring 8.4 inches of ground clearance and an off-road mode with a form of low-speed cruise control, the F-Pace exhibits some off-road capability, with a caution towards the tires and steering clear of the optional 21-inch wheels. It boasts a towing capacity of up to 5,291 lb.

The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace is among the average in terms of fuel economy. Accounting for the standard all-wheel drive, the 2022 F-Pace delivers a typical fuel economy comparable to similar luxury compact crossovers. The 2.0-liter turbo-4 model, the most popular variant, achieves an EPA-rated fuel economy of 22 mpg city, 27 highway, and 24 combined. The mild-hybrid inline-6 model achieves 20/27/22 mpg, while the supercharged SVR consumes premium fuel at a rate of 15/22/18 mpg.

The F-Pace has not undergone crash testing by independent safety agencies. Though there is a lack of crash tests by both the NHTSA and the IIHS, the F-Pace compensates with good standard driver-assist features. Standard safety features stand out more favorably than most competing luxury automakers, and include automatic emergency braking, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control is available at an additional cost.

Credit is also due to last year’s post-Callum interior refresh. Resolving years of ambiguity concerning various instruments, screens, and layouts within the F-Pace cabin, the interior refresh is now met with approval rather than confusion. Slim vents above give way to an open dash for superior outward visibility. Aluminum or wood trims run from the center stack to the door panels, which can be upholstered in a range of leather colors and textures. The inviting and warm interior, boasting high-quality fit and finish, complements the luxurious essence of the F-Pace.

The cockpit incorporates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.4-inch touchscreen that is more user-friendly and intuitive compared to Jaguar’s previous system. Smooth voice commands and one-touch functions make the touchscreen more interactive. The center stack and console serve as the central hub of activity. A blend of traditional dials with digital readouts offers a combination of classic and contemporary climate controls. A retractable door conceals the console contents or opens up for accessing the cupholders.

Behind the supportive front seats, two adults can enjoy ample comfort with over 37 inches of legroom and more headroom compared to the coupe crossovers from German brands. The presence of a fifth seat subtly reminds the two second-row passengers of the driver’s thoughtfulness in not compromising the comfort by squeezing in a third passenger in the rear. With the rear seats in place, cargo space measures above average at 31.5 cubic feet; folding the 40/20/40-split rear seats opens up more than 69 cubic feet of space, complete with a subfloor for storing small items. Loading and unloading cargo is simplified by the hands-free power tailgate.

Well-equipped base models streamline the decision-making process regarding the F-Pace’s engine options. The 2022 F-Pace includes commendable standard features such as 12-way heated front seats with synthetic leather upholstery, an 11.4-inch touchscreen with smartphone compatibility, wireless smartphone charging, Meridian sound system, and wood trim. Though the options list is not as extensive as that of German counterparts, the F-Pace stands out with its warranty, leading the class with a 5-year/60,000-mile limited warranty covering scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance.

The 2022 F-Pace P250 starts at $52,050 and comes well-equipped, with any color other than white incurring an additional cost of at least $650. However, the choice largely depends on the preferred level of performance. The 395-hp R-Dynamic model featuring the turbo- and supercharged 3.0-liter inline-6 costs just under $67,000 and offers substantial performance enhancements without exceeding the budget set for the SVR model. It includes leather sport seats and navigation. The F-Pace SVR with its 542-hp V-8 engine, sport suspension, and 21-inch wheels comes at a price just under $88,000. This model includes cooled 14-way seats, a suede headliner, and other luxurious features, albeit at a significant price increase.

Since its introduction in 2017, the F-Pace has left a lasting impression. With the refresh done last year in 2021, Jaguar has continued to enhance the F-Pace in every aspect. Striking aesthetics that do not compromise cargo space, potent yet efficient powertrains, and updated technology collectively make the 2022 Jaguar F-Pace the best iteration yet. The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace is worthy of a test drive as it excels in what it does best while remaining practical.
