The Mercedes-AMG One has added yet another feather to its cap. The hypercar has just set a new lap record at Monza. It now holds the record for the fastest production car to lap the Italian circuit.
With Maro Engel at the wheel, the AMG One completed a lap of the racetrack in 1 min 43.9 seconds. The car is equipped with all the right tech to attack a high-speed circuit like Monza. As you may be aware, the AMG One is a hybrid, which means Engel had to manage the battery consumption and use the electric boost strategically.
At the heart of the AMG One is a Formula 1-derived 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine, which along with the hybrid system, generates 1049 hp. Besides sheer muscle, the hypercar also features an impressive aerodynamics package, which helps the car grip in the corners and makes it as slippery as possible in a straight line. The drag reduction function for the rear wing comes in really handy at a track like Monza.
The Mercedes-AMG One set a production car lap record at the Nurburgring in November last year. Back then also, it was Engel who took the car around the 21 km racetrack in 6 min 35.183 seconds.
