Pininfarina Battista Makes A New Speed Record By Beating The Nevera Behind

The Pininfarina Battista has become the fastest-accelerating production car in the quarter-mile.

The Battista clocked an 8.55-second quarter-mile time, beating the record set by the Rimac Nevera by 0.03 seconds. It reached the half-mile mark in 13.38 seconds and hit a top speed of 222 mph.

The Battista set the record at the NATRAX high-speed test track in India. Earlier this month, the electric hypercar was also showcased at the Hyderabad E-Prix.

Pininfarina, which is now owned by India’s Mahindra & Mahindra, unveiled its first electric hypercar at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It is powered by four electric motors that produce 1874 hp and 1694 lb-ft of torque. The company claims it can accelerate from 0-62 mph in less than 2 seconds. The 120 kWh battery is said to offer a range of 311 miles.

The Battista’s main rivals include the Rimac Nevera and Lotus Evija. The former also holds the record for the fastest production EV at 256 mph. It also packs four electric motors producing 1914 horsepower and 1696 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the Evija’s four electric motors generate 1973 hp and 1254 lb-ft of torque.
