Review of the 2022 Mazda CX-9 Signature AWD

The Mazda CX-9 for 2022 represents Mazda’s leading three-row midsize crossover SUV. This SUV has been consistently commended for its elegant design, cozy interior, and remarkable performance. The revisions and enhancements made for the 2022 model year further elevate the appeal of this SUV.

Starting from the Sport, Touring, Touring Plus, Carbon Edition, Grand Touring, to the Signature, there are various trim choices for the CX-9. The Signature Trim was featured on the test model, which boasted the premium exterior color of Soul Red Crystal Metallic and the Deep Chestnut Interior. As can be observed from the images, the radiant red color is truly captivating.

The highest offering, the Signature Model, builds on the Grand Touring with the addition of second-row Captain’s chairs that not only look impressive but are also exceptionally comfortable. These chairs come equipped with cup holders and heated seats. The interior is adorned with Nappa Leather, enhancing the upscale appearance and feel. Noteworthy features include a 360° View Monitor, Active Driving Display with Traffic Sign Recognition, Mazda Navigation, and a three-year SiriusXM Traffic & Travel Link subscription providing real-time updates on traffic, weather, sports scores, fuel prices, and nearby parking.

    Exterior:

The Mazda CX-9 showcases a modern and sleek design destined to catch onlookers’ eyes on the road. The 2022 model presents updated front and rear styling, instilling a more aggressive and sporty look in the SUV. The vehicle is available in a selection of enticing colors, including premium choices like Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Gray Metallic, and Snowflake White Pearl Mica. Standard on the CX-9 are 18-inch gray metallic aluminum alloy wheels.

The Signature Model offers additional exterior styling features such as 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels with a striking silver finish, a front grille finished in titanium gray metallic with LED lighting accent, larger dual exhaust pipes, and a Signature badge mounted on the liftgate.

    Interior:

The interior of the Mazda CX-9 is spacious and comfortable, providing ample room for up to seven passengers. For the 2022 model, new materials and finishes have been introduced, bestowing a more luxurious ambiance to the cabin. The seats are well-padded and offer significant support, ensuring a comfortable ride even on long journeys. The vehicle also introduces numerous handy storage solutions, including a spacious center console and multiple cup holders. The Captain’s Chairs, starting with the optional Touring Premium package, provide exceptional comfort, making them a worthy consideration for frequent passenger transportation. Notable optional features include the Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, a wireless phone charger, a power moonroof, front and rear parking sensors, two USB charging ports in the third row, LED fog lights, and second-row retractable window sunshades.

The interior is accommodating and equipped with numerous charging options. The 10.25-inch Color Center console display is strategically positioned. One area for potential enhancement Mazda could consider is the infotainment User experience, which may require some adaptation as it does not offer the same user-friendly interface as some of its competitors.

    Performance:

All CX-9 models are driven by the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine matched with a six-speed automatic transmission featuring manual and sport modes. Delivering 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft torque, the CX-9 offers adequate acceleration and maneuverability for most driving scenarios. An improvement in handling and stability from previous models was noted during the test drive.

The vehicle is equipped with a range of advanced driver-assist technologies, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist to assist drivers as needed.

    Safety

The CX-9 comes well-equipped with a variety of standard i-Activsense safety features, including Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Smart Brake Support with collision warning, Advanced Smart City Brake Support with pedestrian detection, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, the Mazda CX-9 is a remarkable mid-sized SUV offering a blend of elegance, comfort, and performance. The enhancements made for the 2022 model year further elevate the appeal of this vehicle. Whether seeking a family-friendly vehicle or a sporty SUV, the Mazda CX-9 is certainly a contender worth considering.

The starting MSRP for owning a Mazda CX-9 is $35,280, while the tested model, equipped with a range of additional features, was priced at an MSRP of $47,210.
