It won’t be long before the current GT celebrates a decade on the market. Consequently, Mercedes-AMG has consistently refreshed the car over the years. Could the German automaker be contemplating a significant overhaul for this grand tourer? Is it possible that Mercedes-AMG will outfit this car with a potent engine in order to compete with other high-performance cars?
More Information About the 2nd-generation Mercedes-AMG GT
The team at Affalterbach is in the midst of planning the next iteration of the GT. This model may be labeled as the Mercedes-AMG GT S E Performance and could feature the same power unit as the one utilized in the four-door coupe. As expected, this variant is likely to be the flagship model in the GT lineup.
Regarding the powertrain, it is anticipated that the car will be equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine paired with an electric motor. Additionally, a 6.1 kWh battery pack will support the motor. Combined, the engine and motor will produce a total output of 831 HP and an astounding 1,033 lb-ft of torque. With such power, the Mercedes-AMG GT S E Performance could achieve a 0-62 mph time of under 3 seconds and a commendable time of under 10 seconds for the 0-124 mph sprint. In terms of top speed, Mercedes is likely to enable this car to reach 196 mph or 316 km/h.
Furthermore, being smaller than its four-door counterpart should make the GT significantly swifter and more agile in comparison. Mercedes may choose to equip the GT S E Performance with the same 9-speed automatic transmission. The 4Matic+ system, which distributes power to all four wheels, is also expected to be present.
The car may also include ceramic brakes, an enhanced chassis, improved aerodynamics, and new color options to distinguish it from the standard GT.
Competition for the Mercedes-AMG GT S E Performance
When the car is eventually available for purchase, Mercedes aims to position it as a rival to the Porsche 911.
