Renowned for its Germanic 6.2-liter V8 engine, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG was truly admired in the past. In the present era, with the world moving towards sustainable transportation, the fuel-consuming V8 engine doesn’t quite align with current trends.
In the model year 2024, the Mercedes-AMG C63 transitions to a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. While it may appear modest on paper, advancements in hybrid technology have empowered the engineers at Mercedes to produce 671 hp and 752 lb-ft of torque.
The 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 engine is supported by a 204 hp electric motor positioned at the rear axle. Significantly, the combustion engine alone churns out 476 hp, making it the most potent 2.0-liter engine globally!
Moreover, the C63 incorporates turbocharger technology inspired by Formula 1. An electric motor of small size resides between the turbine and the compressor side of the turbocharger. This motor spins the turbo to generate boost on demand. A 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is mated with Mercedes’ 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.
Benefiting from the innovative technology, the new C63 S E Performance is rumored to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 174 mph.
Competing closely with the BMW M3 Competition, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance adopts a similar all-wheel-drive system. However, the M3 relies on a 3.0-liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine exclusively, without any hybrid support.
