Porsche is aiming to provide a unique outdoor experience for sports car enthusiasts with its newest model, the 911 Dakar.
Embodying a blend of a sports car and an all-wheel drive off-roader, the 911 Dakar is a novel concept from Porsche. The idea isn’t entirely unfamiliar to the brand, as they previously participated in the challenging Paris-Dakar rally with a modified 911. However, this version is fully street-legal.
Derived from the Carrera 4 GTS, the fresh 911 Dakar has been elevated by 1.96 inches, with the option to raise the height further to 3.15 inches using an onboard lift mechanism. The vehicle is equipped with specialized Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires.
Externally, the 911 Dakar showcases a sturdy body kit that includes fender extensions and protective plates. Additionally, it features a fixed rear wing and a carbon fiber bonnet borrowed from the 911 GT3. The interior is furnished with racing seats and lightweight windows.
Under the hood of the 911 Dakar lies the identical twin-turbo flat-6 powerplant found in the Carrera 4 GTS, producing 473 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. This power is distributed to all four wheels through an 8-speed PDK transmission. The vehicle offers two new driving modes – Rallye and Off-Road. Porsche states that it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, though its maximum speed is electronically limited to 150 mph.
Porsche plans to manufacture only 2,500 units of the 911 Dakar, each priced at a starting rate of $220,000. Additionally, Lamborghini is set to unveil its own off-road supercar, the Huracan Sterrato, later this month.
